This is a concept for a cost optimized coordinate measuring machine. The xy-stage features air bearings, the drives are hidden in the base of granite. For the z-scanning stage air bushings hold the slider moved by a rope pulley. The rope also provides necessary decoupling of the drive from the guiding system.
